What is the Grooming Process?

You will be greeted by one of our amazing staff members.

At this time, you can discuss what you would like to see, and we will assess your dogs coat. A hair length chart will be provided so you can make the best choice for your dog.

If there is extensive matting, our groomer will provide the best course of action for your dog with your approval.

All services start off with a bath using our all natural products. If your pup has sensitive skin, we also have Hypo-allergenic Shampoo as requested.

Baths are followed by a Hand Blowdry. We do not Crate-dry dogs unless they exhibit stress from being hand blown dried. We may use a Happy Hoodie if required. Depending on size and coat type, this can take anywhere from 30mins to 1 hour.

Depending on which service you choose, groomers will continue with the rest of groom which will include Sanitary trim (Trimming paw pads and rear end), nail trim and ear cleaning.

The entire process can range from 1.5hrs to 5hours depending on the size of dog, coat condition, and mannerism of dog.

What is a Bath & Tidy?

A Bath & Tidy is a great service for dogs who are in between full Kennel Cuts or Teddy Bear Cuts appointments. When choosing this option, no length from the body or head of the dog will be cut. However, brushing out the dog to “De-shed or de-matt” is completed. If there is extensive deshedding or dematting is required, there will be an extra charge. If matts are substantial, we may refuse de-matting service and recommend a Kennel Cut instead.

This is a great option for first time grooms for puppies to get used to grooming rituals.

What is a Kennel Cut?

We use the term Kennel cut to describe a body shave using clippers. Also known as a Summers cut, or Shave Down.

Kennel cut’s length range anywhere from 1/16" or 2mm length of coat to 1/4" or 6mm length of coat left on the body. This option may be used on dogs that are extensively matted and when dematting is not an option.

Please see the options for Kennel cut Lengths.

  • #10 - Cuts and leaves 1/16" or 2mm length of coat

  • #7 - Cuts and leaves approximately 1/8" or 3.2mm length of coat

  • #5 - Cuts and leaves approximately 1/4" or 6mm length of coat

What is Teddy Bear Cut?

Also known as a Puppy cut, a Teddy Bear cut is used to describe a body shave using clippers all over.

Teddy Bear cut’s length range anywhere from 3/8" or 9.5mm length of coat to 1" or 24.5mm length of coat left on the body. This cut can be one length all over from head to toe or longer head and shorter body can give an impression of “cuteness”. If your dog has extensive matting, this option may not be for them. It requires coats to be completely free of matts in order to keep a longer length of cut. This option is great if you would like your dog to keep a longer coat and a little more style.

Please see the options for Teddy Bear cut Lengths.

  • #4 - Cuts and leaves approximately 3/8" or 9.5mm length of coa

  • 1/2” - Cuts and leaves approximately 1/2" or 12.7mm length of coat

  • 5/8”- Cuts and leaves approximately 5/8" or 15.8mm length of coat

  • 1”- Cuts and leaves approximately 1" or 24.5mm length of coat

What does De-shedding Mean?

De-shedding is completed on double-coated dogs. Dogs who blow their coats once a year can be as small as a pug to as large as an Akita or Husky. It is pertinent that the “dead” undercoat is brushed out to maintain their coats. The process for De-shedding is a combination of a good bath with proper de-shedding shampoo/conditioner, blow dry with a high velocity dryer and manual brushing with the right grooming tools.

What does De-matting mean?

Matting can be very painful for some dogs when left too long. Matts can cause sores/hotspots in some areas when not looked after.. It is important to try to maintain your dog’s coat so that this may not happen. If you are unable to de-matt or brush your dog at home in between haircuts we recommend booking them in for a Bath & Tidy with de-matting to help alleviate this process for you. If matts are extensive, we may refuse the de-matting service and recommend a Kennel Cut instead. Dog breeds such as Poodles and Poodle mixes, Pomeranian’s, Curly coats, Cocker Spaniels, Bishon, ShihTzu and any variation of these breeds are prone to matting.

The tools that we recommend using at home are:

  • Stainless Steel Fine Tooth Comb

  • Slicker Brush (large)
